It is no coincidence that Málaga is known as the City of Museums.
In recent years the city has experienced a cultural explosion, with new museums opening that have established the city as an international reference point.
The first of these was perhaps the Picasso Museum in Málaga, which opened in 2003 at the Palacio de Bellavista and has since become the well-deserved (and long-awaited!) home to some of the works of Málaga’s most universal artist.
Next up is the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Palacio de Villalón.
The protagonists here a 19th and early 20th century Spanish paintings, with a special focus on traditional Andalusian scenes.
Another must-see is the Museum of Málaga, which is almost two museums in one.
On the one hand it houses the collection of the Fine Arts Museum of Málaga; on the other, the works from the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Málaga.
And what is the result of this beautiful union?
The largest cultural space in the capital, with over 2,000 paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries and more than 15,000 archaeological references.
Besides, the museum is located in one of the most historic civil buildings in the city: Palacio de la Aduana.
But wait, there’s more.
The Pompidou Centre, the Car and Fashion Museum, the Russian Museum or Contemporary Art Centre complete this trio of museum gems that you can add to your guided tour of Málaga’s museums.
