Guided tour of Nerja and Frigiliana

The perfect combination of beach, countryside and culture

The essentials

  • Visit Nerja and Frigiliana with a private guide and discover two of the most beautiful and historic villages in the province of Málaga.
  • Take the tour at your own pace, with time to contemplate the monuments and take some pictures comfortably.
  • You can also add a visit to the Nerja Caves.

Nerja and Frigiliana are probably the two shining stars of the Axarquía region.

We will start this visit in Nerja so that you can see for yourself. More specifically, in one of the best-known TV locations in Spain, Chanquete’s Boat.

It was a frequent meeting point for the characters of Verano Azul, a 1980s TV series that marked the childhood of millions of Spanish people.

We will continue to Parroquia de El Salvador, which is the main church in Nerja and acts as the gate for the moment you are expecting: looking out from Balcón de Europa (Balcony of Europe).

The name was chosen by King Alfonso XII, who visited the place and said that it was the point where the European continent came to an end.

Be that as it may, one thing is for sure, you have never seen the sea like this anywhere else in the world.

From here we will head towards Sierra de Almijara, the mountain range that shelters the town of the Three Cultures: Frigiliana.

Frigiliana is a place where the three most important cultures of the West – Christian, Muslim and Jewish – mingle and celebrate their union.

The first visit is to Casa del Apero, a 17th century building now converted into a Cultural Centre containing the archaeological museum and the municipal library.

We will walk through the Mudéjar Quarter and reach Calle Real, which takes us directly to the Palace of the Counts of Frigiliana, also known as El Ingenio. Today it is the only sugar cane honey factory in Europe.

Finally, we will visit the Fountain of the Three Cultures.

Oh! And remember that you can complete your guided tour of Nerja and Frigiliana with a walk through prehistoric times visiting…

The Nerja Caves

It may sound confusing, but the caves are actually located in Maro, about a 10-minute drive from Nerja.

It was hidden for hundreds of years until 1959, when a group of friends exploring the area stumbled upon it.

Then, its exceptional archaeological remains came to light, including thousand-years-old cave paintings.

In addition, the stalactites and stalagmites that decorate the ceilings and floors of the caves make it a truly unique environment that you should not miss.
