And what it was in the past, because Phoenicians, Romans and Muslims all left their mark on this small village.
The first stop is just a few metres from the meeting point: the Virgen de la Peña Chapel. On the way there you might hear the odd bray: don’t worry, there are donkeys around, and you’ll probably see them.
Returning to the chapel, we can assure you that you have never seen one like it. When you hear about the history of the place, you’ll surely be amazed.
Still in awe, we will go to Parque de la Muralla (“The Park of the Wall”), in the upper part of the village.
As its name suggests, it is located on the old wall, and is full of balconies from which you can admire the landscape in an environment full of natural greenery and colourful mosaics.
Just a few steps from there, we will step into the Mijas bullring, one of the few oval-shaped bullrings in Spain.
From here we’ll take three more steps to reach the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the most important church in Mijas.
If the visit coincides with their opening hours, we will be able to come in.
The next stop is the Old Flour Mill, a faithful reconstruction. It was made with original pieces that are more than 200 years old.
By now you will probably have noticed a small yellow wagon in the area.
The last stop on this guided tour of Mijas is the Ethnographic Museum.
This is a must-see place to understand the character of the region and delve into popular Andalusian customs of the last few centuries.

Can I bring my pet on this guided tour of Mijas?
We love pets, but they can’t join us on this walk. The reason is that we will enter museums and animals are not allowed in.
